Hey

http://www.london-eating.co.uk/
I can't copy and paste the images here?!
but the website above have got some good picis of places to eat in london.
galvin at windows, pasha look good. it might be nice to get picis of restaurants by the river thames as that is exclusive to London. Galvin at Windows is by the river.

http://philip.greenspun.com/images/200102-e10-london/orange-street-sign.half.jpg
these images are of london road signs- we could even use this as an example of how to display the chapters- n london, s londoon etc and we can change the postcode on the sign to represent this SW, N, EC etc. sorry i can't copy and paste the image. Not sure if this can be achieved but its an idea.
and below there's afternoon tea, which is popular in London. The first one is at Fortnum and Mason's, the second at the Ritz, and the third at Brown's. All the photos are from Flickr - i know some aren't the best but they might give you some ideas!

Hope that helps a bit! Let us know if we'll see you later or not, cos if not we'll need a meet-up tomorrow evening.

So below there's Starbucks, which is everywhere in London, a man selling sweets at one of the tube stations, and cupcake shops which is a current London trend.

The first one is from Harrods foodhall, the second from Chinatown and the rest from food markets in London. These are all well known in London and so could be in our book. If not the one you've chosen is still very British! I'll have another look in case you don't like any.

xXx

Hey Monica! Hope you had a good birthday. We sent a few texts yesterday about the project - we've put most of the powerpoint together now and were going to have a meeting today at the Hub (Davies Street) at 5. Will you be able to get there? The sample pages and cover and everything are amazing! We were so impressed. The only thing on the pages is that we need to add a 'central London' section.

These are the photos i found ages ago - i don't know if any of them will help:

TIFF file format

The TIFF is a flexible, adaptable file format for handling images and data within a single file, by including the header tags (size, definition, image-data arrangement, applied image compression) defining the image's geometry.

The ability to store image data in a lossless format makes the TIFF file a useful image archive, because, unlike standard JPEG files, the TIFF using lossless compression (or none) may be edited and re-saved without losing image quality.

Printing Press Details

Offset Lithography

Advantages
Consistent high image quality. Offset printing produces sharp and clean images and type more easily than letterpress printing because the rubber blanket conforms to the texture of the printing surface.

Quick and easy production of printing plates.

Longer printing plate life than on direct litho presses because there is no direct contact between the plate and the printing surface. Properly developed plates running in conjunction with optimized inks and fountain solution may exceed run lengths of a million impressions.

The more you print, the less you pay per page, because most of the price goes into the preparation undergone before the first sheet of paper is printing and ready for distribution. Any additional paper print will only cost the client paper price (and ink), which is very minimal.

Web-fed litho

Info
"Web-fed" refers to the use of rolls (or "webs") of paper supplied to the printing press. Offset web printing is generally used for runs in excess of 10 or 20 thousand impressions. Typical examples of web printing include newspapers, newspaper inserts/ads, magazines, catalogs, and books.

Web-fed presses are divided into two general classes: "Cold" or "Non-Heatset," and "Heatset".

Heatset offset web presses utilize drying lamps or heaters to cure or "set" the inks. Heatset presses can print on both coated (slick) and uncoated papers, while coldset presses are restricted to uncoated paper stock, such as newsprint.

--------------------------

Offset printing is the most common form of high-volume commercial printing, due to advantages in quality and efficiency in high-volume jobs. Many modern offset presses are using computer to plate systems as opposed to the older computer to film workflows, which further increases their quality.

--------------------------

Computer to Plate

Advantages
In CTP, one generation (transfer of film image to the printing plate) is removed from the printing process, increasing sharpness and detail.

Plates are produced in less time, are more consistent, and at a lower cost.

CTP can also improve registration and image-to-edge repeatability over traditional methods.

CTP, the media is registered (held in precise position) in the platesetter during imaging, and does not rely on a separately-aligned pin grid, as is the case with film. Defects due to dust, scratches or other artifacts are minimized.

CTP systems can significantly increase print shop productivity. The fastest platesetters can output more than 120 12-inch plates per hour, punched and ready to hang on the press.

Possible things to talk about on the Internet side of things....

Hey, this is what I came up with for things we need to look for the web slides...

Design Cost - designer
maintainence
web site hosting hosts (this might be going into too much detail though - I really think David just wants a ballpark figure to show that we've understood there'll be a cost etc)

Search Engine Optimisation / Visability - discovery of our web page
cost of hiring someone to improve the optimisation
metadata - need to research how this works.

RSS Feeds - good to include, improve the customer experience, update customers about any new books uploaded to the site, any new art events posted....

Customer Database - based on online purchases (and customer log ins?) allows us to gather research and sales material easily.
- Details of how this data is stored / searched / used - maybe geographically specific newsletters sent out by postcode?

Marketing Potential of Website - links and tags with other websites - make the website more visible, links with the online art community - possibly have an online arts forum as part of the website? - if we do go for any of these ideas they would have to be included on the site map (Isy)
- Also plain just selling books online, through the website.

Usability Testing - of the website itself. Say we've done it, 5 people, ensures we've got an easy to navigate site and has everything people are looking for.

That's it, anything else to add, post a comment!
